Fundación Saldarriaga Concha: Supporting the Full Inclusion of People with Disabilities and Older Adults in Colombia

The Fundación Saldarriaga Concha (in Spanish) is a not-for-profit organization in Colombia that supports the full inclusion and rights of people with disabilities and older adults by helping to transform Colombia into a solidary society that recognizes and respects these communities. This foundation supports the full inclusion of older adults and people with disabilities in various ways. The first is by designing, testing, and sharing solutions that provide opportunities to people with disabilities and older adults to access, stay in, and promote their education and that generate training spaces that promote their participation in education (in Spanish). The second is by designing, testing, and sharing solutions that impact the wellbeing and health (in Spanish) of older adults and people with disabilities in individual, community, and institutional settings. The third is through the design, testing, and implementation of solutions for people with disabilities and older adults to overcome poverty through formal employment and entrepreneurship strategies (in Spanish). The foundation also works on the construction of indicators and the analysis of information to make the social and productive exclusion of older adults and people with disabilities visible to Colombian society. The foundation provides advocacy in research (in Spanish) so that surveys and studies carried out in Colombia take these communities into account and promotes the creation of public policies that favor the inclusion of older adults and people with disabilities in society.

Through its Teachers for Inclusion Resource Center (in Spanish), the Saldarriaga Concha Foundation provides resources so that people with disabilities, their families, and their teachers may learn about inclusion and equity in education, with a section specifically for teachers that includes resources on how to transform and promote inclusive educational environments. For older adults, the foundation has a care strategy called I Actively Care for Myself at Home (in Spanish) which is full of activities and workshops that older adults may complete with their families and caregivers using virtual tools. These activities and workshops may help to improve the way older adults in Colombia take care of themselves, develop new skills, learn healthier lifestyle habits, and improve their mental health. Finally, the Foundation provides news of interest (in Spanish) that may be searched by region and topic.
