The National Institute on Aging has declared September 2015 Go4Life Month, focusing attention on the health benefits of exercise and physical activity for older adults. Exercise and physical activity can help improve physical fitness, strength, and balance; can reduce feelings of depression and improve mood and overall well-being; and can help manage and reduce the impact of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis. All of this is true for people with disabilities as they age, too. The NIDILRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Healthy Aging and Physical Disabilities (Aging RRTC) discussed the value of physical activity as a strong option for fighting depression for people with spinal cord injury in a 2012 Paraplegia News article.
