Down Syndrome Awareness Month!

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month sponsored by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS). In honor of Down syndrome awareness, NDSS hosts events to celebrate the accomplishments and promote the acceptance and inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome. NDSS got an early start to the month with its 19th Annual Flagship Buddy Walk  and video presentation in Times Square on September  21, but there are still plenty of other opportunities to get involved. The NDSS YouTube channel covers the many resources and events the organization has available this month and year-round, as well as webinar and educational series.

Check out the latest research (in the last five years) on Down syndrome available from the NARIC Library. In the spirit of Down syndrome awareness, NARIC also offers advocacy and awareness literature like this guide for parents and professionals on co-occurring Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorders (DS-ASD) and this collection of personal stories written by a variety of people whose lives have been touched by an individual with Down syndrome.
