Pat Going is hoping that his Great Grips assistive device will be making its way to Wal-Mart stores in the near future if he wins the company’s online competition, “Get on the Shelf” according to an article published in the August 23rd edition of Colorado Springs Gazette. Going who has worked with the Arthritis Foundation and the Americans with Disabilities Technical Assistance Center invented Great Grips after being inspired by an elderly woman who had difficulties opening her front door. The first adaptation of Great Grips appeared on the market in 1998 and since that time Going has worked with investors to market original and new designs to create the most current design—a longer lasting device with two “mini levers” on either side, which allows individuals to open a door with their elbows or a single finger. A video of Great Grips in action is available on YouTube. To vote to have this product added to Wal-Mart stores between now and September 2nd please visit: getontheshelf.walmart.com/product/1551/Great-Grips.
