White House Disability Call for August

At 2pm EST on August 24th, 2012, the White House Disability Call took place. The call was led by Kareem Dale, Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy and the speaker’s for the call were Valerie Jarett, Senior Adviser to the President, and Cecilia Muñoz, Director, White House Domestic Policy Council. Ms. Muñoz discussed the community living initiatives that were being worked on by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of Labor (DOL), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She also discussed how these three Departments and the Department of Justice were working on the enforcement of Olmstead. Ms. Muñoz announced that President Obama is sending a delegation to the 2012 Paralympic Games in London that will include Kareem Dale. Ms. Jarett discussed the meeting that President Obama had with young leaders with disabilities. She announced that a video had been released relating to the meeting and that Mr. Dale had written a blog on the meeting.

We will share when the next White House Disability Call will be when the White House Disability Group announces the call and calling details.
