One Week until the London Paralympics

With one week to go before the start of the 2012 London Paralympic Games, we continue to highlight past and present athletes from across the globe.

  • Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike from Nigeria has competed in three Paralympic Games and winning a total of three medals. Ms. Ejike competed in the powerlifting events in the Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and Beijing 2008 Games winning one silver and two gold medals.
  • Joao Paulo Fernandes is a three-time Paralympic Games Boccia champion from Portugal. He has won 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal at the last two Paralympic Games.
  • Mohammed Khamis Khalaf has won 1 gold at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games in the >82.5kg weight powerlifting class and 1 silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games in the >90kg class after overcoming an elbow injury. Mr. Khalaf is the first athlete from the United Arab Emirates to win a Paralympic gold medal.
